Travel to Rwanda – Episode 591
categories: africa travelHear about travel to Rwanda as the Amateur Traveler talks to Vyjay from imvoyager.com about his trip to that country.
Vyjay, who was there on a press trip, says, “To be honest before I landed in Rwanda, I knew very little about Rwanda. In fact, when you think of Africa you normally think of South Africa, Tanzania, and Uganda but not Rwanda. But I landed there about 6 months back and what I saw blew my mind. If you want to go to a place where nature is still pristine (there are incredible landscapes that vary from rainforests, grasslands, tea plantations to volcanic mountains and lakes) then you need to get to Rwanda. Add to that the wildlife which is synonymous with Africa. And of course, the mountain gorillas of Rwanda are the prime attraction.”
Vyjay went on a Mountain Gorilla trek in Volcanoes National Park, where he came face to face with these gentle giants. He watched them care for their young and even display sibling rivalry.
He also visited Nyungwe Forest National Park, which has dozens of different species of primates, including chimpanzees. It also has a canopy walk that challenges your fear of heights.
He went to the grasslands of Akagera National Park in eastern Rwanda, where you can find the “Big 5” African animals: lions, elephants, leopards, rhinos, and cape buffalo.
His group cruised Lake Ihema looking for crocodiles and hippos.
Rwanda was his first trip to sub-Saharan Africa, and it defied his expectations. He found Kigali. the capital, to be surprisingly clean. They have banned plastic bags in an effort to reduce litter in the country. He visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial, where he learned more about that dark time in the country’s history.
Hear why Vyjay thinks you will also fall in love with this country and with its people and wildlife.

on India I heard:
Amateur Traveler India Trip – Episode 590
from Sivaramaprasad:
I like the Podcasts. Good coverage.
from Saif:
Hi Chris!
My name is Saif and I’m an avid listener of the Amateur traveler! Being from India, I quite enjoyed the most recent episode from your trip last year. Given that I’m away from the country on a short work assignment made listening to the episode even special, having visited 3/5 places you covered. Most of the guests were right about the chaos but I guess the cacophony adds to the uniqueness of the place. Guess you guys felt a bit empty on your first day back home haha. Anyway, great listening to the episode and hope you guys enjoyed the trip as much. Come back soon!
I heard form Patrick on
Travel to Milwaukee, Wisconsin – Episode 538
“I like all your episodes, I love this episode. Most episodes make me think “Yeah, it would be nice to visit this place.” I don’t want to visit Milwaukee, I need to visit Milwaukee. Barbara is the best cheerleader for a destination I’ve ever heard. Please let her know that she has converted me and I’m already planning a trip to the city. I’m going to eat so many pretzels.”
Happy New Year Chris! Thanks so much for sharing! Always nice that people want to come here.
I’m still enjoying your podcasts on my walks. I used the Oman podcast to help plan our trip over the holidays and found it as wonderful as was reported. Then since we loved Lombok, I was thrilled to relive it through your recent podcast. Keep up the great work! Hope to see you again in the future!

Loved the whole conversation!
I personally went to see the mountain gorillas a few years back and it was such an amazing experience. I took a safari trip (https://africatravelco.com/trip-and-safaris/nairobi-kampala-safari-tour/) for 9 days with Africa Travel Co.
It was the best trip I ever took. Getting so close to these beautiful animals and seeing how they go about their day made the whole trip extraordinary. I’ll never forget it!
