The Amateur Traveler talks to Antonello Losito from Southern Visions Travel about his native region of Puglia (Apulia) in Italy. Puglia is the boot of Italy and does not get the same number of tourists as Northern Italy. But Antonello recommends his rugged coastline and mountain towns as a way to see the Italy that “most American’s picture”.
“Puglia is a destination relatively unknown to the general public. You look at Italy and you refer to places like Tuscany or cities like Venice and Rome.Puglia is a little bit off the radar.”
Antonello recommends an itinerary that starts in Bari (the capital) in the middle of the long coastline of Puglia. He is also in love with Polinano a Mare just south of Bari. We will find remnants of Venetian, Norman and Greek kingdoms. And no visit to Puglia would be complete without seeing the UNESCO Heritage site of the Trulli (canonical houses) of Alberobello.
