Berlin Reichstag Dome - Berlin, Germany

When the parliament of Germany returned to Berlin after the country was re-unified, it took its traditional place in the old Reichstag building. Since this building was now so closely associated with one of the last gasps of Nazi Germany in the Battle for Berlin in World War II, some remodeling of the building was in order. The architect put in a unique dome that let’s the citizens of Germany (and tourists) climb a winding walkway and look down into where the representatives are debating the laws of the land. The dome also has a large reflector to let light into the room symbolizing. The message is that governing here no longer happens in dark rooms or in secret.

The dome, right by the Brandenburg Gate, also has a great view of the city.
